Western Norway is an incredibly vast region and has some gorgeous places to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not just that the scenery is incredible, or that the whole country offers such amazing opportunities to explore its natural beauty but also because of its towns and people who are so warm and friendly\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026I\u2019m not sure if it\u2019s a Norwegian thing, or we just met some incredibly warm people, but everyone has always been so nice \u2013 Norwegians rule!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past 18 months, we\u2019ve been very fortunate to experience quite a bit of Norway, particularly on its Atlantic Coast and it is somewhere that I can\u2019t recommend enough! There really is so much to see and do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a look at some of the very best places visit in Western Norway.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.) Bergen<\/strong>
<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Bergen is one of Western Norway\u2019s biggest cities that is perched on the southwest coast of the country ane of the best places to visit if you like cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s is the perfect place to experience a little slice of Norwegian charm. Head to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bryggen and discover a piece of medieval Norway!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t forget, the best sunsets can be spotted from the top of Fl\u00f8yen Mountain \u2013 but no need to worry if you\u2019re weary legs are tired, there\u2019s a really fun funicular to take you to the top! Make sure to also make a stop at \u00d8ye and stay at the impressive Hotel Union, this famous hotel still holds it\u2019s historic charm that royalty all over Europe previously enjoyed! If you\u2019re not intending to stay the night, pop into their scrumptious restaurant too \u2013 it\u2019s a great place to enjoy some yummy local cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For adventure junkies \u2013 hop on board one of the town\u2019s rib boat tours that\u2019ll whisk you through the stunning landscape. Over the past 18 months, we\u2019ve been very fortunate to experience quite a bit of Norway, particularly on its Atlantic Coast and it is somewhere that I can\u2019t recommend enough! There really is so much to see and do. Take a look at some of the very best places visit in Western Norway.\u00a0 1.) Bergen Bergen is one of Western Norway\u2019s biggest cities that is perched on the southwest coast of the country ane of the best places to visit if you like cities. It\u2019s is the perfect place to experience a little slice of Norwegian charm. Head to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bryggen and discover a piece of medieval Norway! Don\u2019t forget, the best sunsets can be spotted from the top of Fl\u00f8yen Mountain \u2013 but no need to worry if you\u2019re weary legs are tired, there\u2019s a really fun funicular to take you to the top! Make sure to head to Fl\u00f8yen a few hours earlier and enjoy a ramble through the impressive Fl\u00f8yvarden cairn walking route. 2.)\u00a0Norangsdalen valley &\u00a0\u00d8ye Norangsdalen valley is one of the prettiest Valleys in Norway. Its stunning, awe-inspiring nature and frontier-like landscape makes you feel like the first ever person here! It\u2019s such a beautiful place and well worth enjoying on your  trip. Make sure to also make a stop at \u00d8ye and stay at the impressive Hotel Union, this famous hotel still holds it\u2019s historic charm that royalty all over Europe previously enjoyed! If you\u2019re not intending to stay the night, pop into their scrumptious restaurant too \u2013 it\u2019s a great place to enjoy some yummy local cuisine. 3.) Stavanger and Pulpit Rock The city of Stavanger is one of Norway\u2019s largest cities and the perfect place to discover some of the cities beautiful places to visit. Don\u2019t forget to see its impressive cathedral, waterfront and its hiking opportunities that are a stone\u2019s throw from the city itself. For more adventurous hikers, take a trip to Pulpit Rock for one of the most impressive cliff-like viewpoints in all of Western Norway over the Lysefjord! It\u2019s leg-wobblingly good! 4.) Fl\u00e5m, Aurlandsfjord, Sognefjord and Naeroyfjord Fl\u00e5m, is the tiny little town perched at the very end of Aurlandsfjorden, which feeds into the much larger (and very deep) Sognefjorden! Take the Flam Line here (from Bergen) and experience the incredibly dramatic nature that you\u2019ll pass through. For adventure junkies \u2013 hop on board one of the town\u2019s rib boat tours that\u2019ll whisk you through the stunning landscape. You might even find a few porpoise or nise (as they\u2019re called in Norway). 5.)\u00a0Geiranger &\u00a0 Geirangerfjord There\u2019s a whole heap of amazing places to visit in Western Norway, with these fjords being no exception. A few hours inland is the beautiful little town of Geiranger that\u2019s nestled on the side of the mighty Geirangerfjord. Travel by boat and see some of the areas most beautiful sights. Don\u2019t forget to keep your eyes peeled for the \u2018Seven Sisters\u2019 waterfalls, and even take a drive to Djupvatnet Lake and the impressive viewpoint of Dalsnibba nearby \u2013 it\u2019s one of the highest viewpoints in all of Europe! If you\u2019re looking for a little more of a challenge, head out into nature and take a hike to Storseterfossen. It\u2019s not often you can actually stand underneath a roaring waterfall! See all our posts from Western Norway really is one of the best places to visit \u2013 especially whilst in the Scandic countries. 6.)\u00a0Alesund This pretty coastal town that is within the historic area of Sunnm\u00f8re and is  gateway to some of Norway\u2019s most amazing places to visit. Make sure to spend a day or two exploring this wonderful little town and it\u2019s many charming shops, history, and the beautiful islands that hug the mainland. Oh, and don\u2019t forget to walk up Fjellstua Viewpoint to see all across the region. 7.) Runde Island Runde island is a short 40 minutes boat ride from the harbour of Alesund and can be easily reached during your stay in the city. It\u2019s one gorgeous island and one of the nices places to visit when in the region. This beautiful island and the wider coastline of Western Norway should not be missed, especially if you\u2019re travelling to Alesund. Take a boat tour to discover some of the islands most famous inhabitants \u2013 puffins! You\u2019ll also get to learn much more about this special place\u2026 and the hidden gold and silver that can still be found on the seabed (from a centuries-old shipwreck). 8.)\u00a0Tananger\u00a0& the North Sea Perched on the Stavanger Peninsular, Tananger is a beautiful little place that is perfect to discover the regions older historic sights, such as Tananger Chapel. If you\u2019re wanting to explore the waters and take part in the age-old fishing tradition of this region, then make sure to organise a fishing trip into the North Sea itself\u2026 \u2026 just don\u2019t end up as bad at fishing as I was, I caught nothing.
